Quality Orthodontic Care
Although Dr. Christopher Sortman and our other dentists are not board-certified as orthodontic specialists, they are qualified to provide full-spectrum orthodontics. In addition to receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery, Dr. Sortman received training in progressive orthodontics. While serving as a dentist in the Navy, Dr. Sortman also completed an AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) program, which provides hands-on work with all dental specialties including endodontics and orthodontics.
In addition, Dr. Kreuze completed an AEGD two-year residency program while serving in the Army, providing him with the advanced skills needed to perform successful orthodontic treatment.
Our team understands that patients have different needs, and for this reason, we offer a few options when it comes to straightening teeth. Our younger patients undergoing tooth transition (the period where adult teeth replace baby teeth over time) often benefit from traditional braces. Traditional braces have fixed brackets cemented over the surfaces of teeth where ligatures and other fixed appliances such as palate expanders are anchored. Using consistent pressure, traditional orthodontics will shift teeth to straighter, upright positions over the course of treatment. If necessary, your dentist will work with an experienced oral surgeon when surgically assisted orthodontic treatment is required.
If you are looking for a quick, comfortable way to achieve a great smile, consider our short-term orthodontic options. We offer both ClearCorrect and Invisalign clear aligner therapy. Learn more about these options by visiting our page on short-term orthodontics.
Dentofacial orthopedics describes the element of orthodontic treatment that guides facial development and growth — a process that primarily occurs during childhood. Through the use of specialized appliances such as expanders and headgear, we can treat facial abnormalities and other developmental conditions. Dentofacial orthopedic treatment may be performed prior to placing conventional braces, but it may also be used in conjunction with braces.
Our Norton Shores, MI dentist is skilled in diagnosing the misalignments of the teeth, jaw, and facial structure in children and adults in order to provide integrated orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic care.

Convenient Short-Term Orthodontic Solutions
Are you looking for a fast way to straighten your smile? Community Shores Dental offers two different types of short-term orthodontics in our Norton Shores, MI office: Invisalign and ClearCorrect. Either of these systems can be used to help you achieve the balanced smile you have always wanted. Read on to learn more.
Why Short-term Orthodontics?
Our short-term orthodontics options may be preferable to traditional braces for a number of reasons: comfort, aesthetics, and, of course, treatment time. Adults and busy high school and college students especially love our short-term solutions because they are simply the most convenient option! However, ClearCorrect and Invisalign aren’t for everyone — please consider our traditional solutions if you have severe orthodontic problems.
Clearcorrect Clear Aligners
One short-term orthodontics solution that our Norton Shores, MI dentist offers, which is very popular among teenagers and adults, is ClearCorrect. This teeth straightening system involves using clear, plastic oral appliances that resemble a retainer to gradually shift teeth. ClearCorrect uses the same principles as traditional braces without the need for fixed oral appliances. Instead, you will wear removable plastic appliances called aligners. Worn over teeth like a retainer, sets of aligners (each tighter than the set before) are worn in succession to straighten teeth with consistent, gentle pressure.
Like traditional braces, ClearCorrect can improve spacing issues between teeth such as gaps and crowding along with promoting a healthier occlusion (or bite). Clear braces are advantageous because they are removable for meals and oral hygiene and look very discreet. In fact, Clear Correct aligners can let you smile without conspicuous-looking metal and wire braces. Your peers will not even know you are wearing them! Because of the clear plastic material the aligners are made from, ClearCorrect is also extremely comfortable to wear. You will never have to deal with being scratched or poked by metal appliances!
Invisalign Invisible Braces
With 3D computer imaging, we can provide you with a series of invisible orthodontic aligners that are designed to gently and discreetly straighten your teeth. Known as Invisalign, this orthodontic system enables our team to plan your treatment and map your progress using a virtual treatment planning application. Imagine being able to visualize your future smile before your treatment has even begun!
Invisalign is successful when you wear each provided set of aligners all day and all night, as directed by your dentist. You will be instructed to wear each set of your aligners for a two-week period, removing them only during meals, drinking, brushing, and flossing. After two weeks, as your teeth begin to become more aligned, you will be instructed to transition to a new set of custom aligners.
Invisalign is a popular orthodontic solution for many teens and adults, thanks to the comfort, ease, and privacy that the procedure offers. Like ClearCorrect, Invisalign offers smooth, plastic aligners and discreet orthodontic treatment. Invisalign can help you achieve the beautiful, straight, healthy smile you have always wanted!
