Meet the Doctors

Dr. Christopher Sortman, DDS

Dr. Christopher Sortman graduated from University of Michigan Dental School in 2004. Prior to dental school, he attended Hope College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1999. Following dental school, Dr. Sortman became Lieutenant Sortman and served as a Navy dentist withthe Marines in Okinawa. While there, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program. The AEGD gave him shoulder-to-shoulder experience with specialists in every field of dentistry. This experience was a springboard to becoming a leader in providing comprehensive dentistry. Since then, he has pursued additional continuing education and is trained in progressive orthodontics, sedation dentistry (via the University of Georgia), and Nobel Biocare dental implants.

On a personal note, Dr. Sortman is married to his college sweetheart, Holly. They have four children: Spencer, Saige, Piper, and Orly. He enjoys spending time with family, pursuing varying interests, and most of all helping others to become the best they can be!

Dr. Logan Clements, DDS

Dr. Clements attended The University of Detroit Mercy for his undergraduate studies as a Biological Sciences major and went on to receive his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He is focused on providing his patients with the best possible care for their oral health and continued education in dentistry. Dr. Clements is a member of the Michigan Dental and American Dental Associations.

Originally from Swartz Creek, MI, Dr. Clements recently moved to the west side to see what the lakeshore has to offer and looks forward to furthering his career in Dentistry. He is an outdoorsman and enjoys spending his time hunting, fishing and camping. You can also catch Dr. Clements in his Jeep Wrangler on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in the summer, or playing ice hockey in the winter!

Meet the Team


Administrative Lead

Alexis has six years of experience working as a dental assistant and front office administrator. She is certified in digital X-rays and CPR. Alexis enjoys working at Community Shores Dental because each day is different and comes with a new set of challenges. She loves helping patients overcome their dental problems and building lifelong relationships. When she's not busy scheduling patient care, she loves spending time with her family and friends. Her and her husband built a house and she loves decorating and doing house projects on the weekends. You can also catch Alexis shopping, soaking up the sun, or going for a long run when she isn’t at work.


Patient Care Coordinator

Katie Chmelik is joining us as a receptionist at the front desk. Katie graduated from GVSU in 2012 with Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Advertising. She is married and has one son, with plans to expand her family in the future. Katie also enjoys spending time with her family, working out, and traveling.


Financial Coordinator

Allie recently moved to the Muskegon area this winter from Grand Rapids and is loving how close the lakeshore is. Allie enjoys working in the dental field because she loves getting to know our patients and being part of making their experience enjoyable. She enjoys working in a fast paced environment, taking on new challenges, and how each day is different. She recently got engaged and is enjoying planning their wedding next summer. In her free time, Allie and her fiance like to take their puppy Knox to Lake Harbor Park to walk the trails, soak up the sun at the beach, check out new shopping areas, and explore new things to do in Muskegon.


Financial Coordinator

Brittany joined our team toward the end of 2016 as our communications assistant. She is here to help you have a better experience and to find out what is on our patients' minds. She really enjoys her new career at Community Shores Dental because of the fast-paced work environment. Brittany also enjoys spending time with her husband and going on bike rides through their neighborhood.


Insurance CoordinatorRenee Insurance Coordinator

Renee joined our team in 2018 as our head insurance coordinator. She has many years of experience working in the dental field. She started her dental career as an assistant, receptionist, and then an office manager. She specializes and enjoys insurance billing. The ever changing world of insurance is a daily challenge that always keeps Renee on her toes. In her spare time Renee enjoys kayaking, tubing, and relaxing on the beach with her son.


Insurance Specialist

Robin has been an insurance specialist at our office since the end of 2016. If you have questions about your insurance, ask Robin! She has been working in the medical/health care field since 2006, and she really enjoys getting claims paid for our patients. Robin also loves to spend time with her family (especially her grandkids), travel, and go camping!


Registered Dental Hygienist

Alicia began her career in dentistry as an orthodontic assistant in 2012 before joining our team in 2014 as a registered dental hygienist. Alicia received her associate's degree in dental hygiene from Ferris State University. She is also licensed as an RDH and has completed additional training in local anesthesia, nitrous oxide analgesia, laser dentistry, and Zoom whitening. Alicia enjoys getting to know each patient and educating them about how to achieve a healthy, beautiful smile. In her free time, Alicia loves to spend time with her family and friends, take her border collie (Tucker) on walks, go kayaking, be outdoors, and be creative.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Jennifer has been creating healthier smiles at Community Shores Dental since 2012. She received her associate's degree in dental hygiene from Ferris State University. She went on to receive certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide analgesia as well as additional training in laser therapy and basic life support. Jennifer enjoys getting to know patients and making them feel more confident with their smiles. She also loves to spend time with her husband and son, Asher, travel around Michigan, spend time with friends and family, and decorate her home.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Since 2014, Kirstin has been helping patients have healthier mouths as a dental hygienist on our team. She earned her associate's degree in dental hygiene from Grand Rapids Community College and is also certified in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide analgesia. Kirstin has also completed additional training in basic life support and laser therapy. She enjoys building lifelong relationships with her patients and inspiring patients to value their oral health. When she's not helping patients, you can find Kirstin decorating her home, traveling, and working out.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Crystal joined our team in the fall of 2018. She earned her associate's degree in Dental Hygiene from Grand Rapids Community College and is also certified in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide analgesia. She loves making an impact on her patient's oral health, especially when it comes to educating them on homecare techniques. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and traveling during the summer time.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Reilly joined our team in 2018 as a dental hygienist. She enjoys helping patients and creating healthier smiles. She earned her associate's degree in Dental Hygiene at Grand Rapids Community College. She is certified in local anesthesia, as well as nitrous oxide analgesia, with training in basic life support. Reilly enjoys getting to know her patients here at Community Shores Dental and being able to improve their oral health. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as traveling, doing hair, and surfing Pinterest.


Registered Dental Assistant

Ashley joined our team in 2013, but she has been working in dentistry since 2005 as a certified dental assistant. In addition to her assisting training, Ashley has completed several different continuing education classes and seminars. She greatly enjoys making patients happy about their smile and feel valued as a patient. When not helping patients, you can find Ashley spending time with her kids and enjoying their various sports and activities.


Dental Assistant

Lacey joined our team in February 2016 as a dental assistant, but she has been working in dentistry since 2010. She received her certification through the Ross Medical Dental Assisting program and is also certified in X-ray and CPR. Lacey enjoys working in dentistry because of the variety of patients she gets to see. She may begin the day with a geriatric patient and end with a young child! When she is away from the office, Lacey enjoys eating, kayaking, fishing, and working in her flower garden.


Dental Assistant

Sheryl Dental Assistant

Sheryl is new to our office but she is not new to dental. She has been a dental assistant since 1988 (30 years!) Sheryl attended Careerline Tech Center's dental assisting program. She is certified in dental radiology through Ferris State and is also CPR certified through Red Cross. Sheryl enjoys getting to know her patients, helping them have a comfortable and pleasant experience, and also making sure they are happy and satisfied with their results. In her spare time she loves spending time with friends, her husband of 42 years, 2 sons, 1 daughter in law, and 2 adorable grandchildren. If she isn't hunkered down with a good book, or looking to snag a great deal at the antiques store, she is out taking advantage of the beautiful lake shore community that we are so lucky to live in!


Dental Assistant

Sarah has been a dental assistant since 2007. She is x-ray and CPR certified. She enjoys working chair side with the doctor and helping educate patients on healthy smiles. When Sarah isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her husband and two little boys, family and friends. She also likes spending time outdoors, golfing and hanging out at the lake.

Dental Assistant

Jennifer has 2 years experience as a dental assistant and four years experience as a former dental hygienist. She recently completed our dental assisting program here at the office and now enjoys helping parapro the course. Jennifer enjoys interacting with patients and improving smiles. She is an avid health and fitness person and interested in overall well-being. In her spare time she loves spending time with her two children. If she isn’t outside, enjoying the trails or the beach, Jennifer is painting or rock climbing.
